Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling Of Injured Ankle

Hi, Last week i twisted my ankle while playing football and it got swollen. I can rotate my ankle in all directions but If I stand for a long time and put weight on it, then there is a pain from within and the swelling increases. I hv been putting an ice pack twice a day and also cover my ankle with a bandage for few hours a day. Its been almost a week but I have not completely recovered. Please suggest what should I do.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury .
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
