Suggest Treatment For Pain At The Back Of My Head

i just had a sharp pain in the back of my right side of my head, it pulsated up and around my ear to the right side of my temple and shot over behind my eyes or right above them to the left temple. I got tunnel vision for about 3 minutes and the pain pulsated. I almost passed out. the tenderness is there still. Do I need to go into the ER? I am 48 and female of 200lbs.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to temporal arteritis, which is a serious medical disorder. A migraine headache can not be excluded either. Anyway, if this is the first time that you experience such type of headache, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam, a brain MRI and inflammation tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
