Suggest Treatment For Painful And Swollen Wrist

I sprained my wrist a week ago, but since I ve done it before, knew how to handle it, and thought I d wait and see before going to the doctor. It was slowly improving over the week, but when I woke up this morning, it was swollen and quite painful again. It hurts a lot in some positions. Is it worth going to the doctor?

Hi,
Thanks for your query.
From description , it seems you might developed muscular or ligamentous strain .
Now after 1 weeks if pain is severe ,I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance
You can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation.
Warm regards.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Dr. Naveen Kumar Sharma's  Response
Hello,
i have studied your case and I do not think we can take this case so lightly. I would suggest you to meet a doctor and get x ray of the wrist joint .There is a possibility of either hair line fracture or a soft tissue injury leading to Hematoma.
If there is any fracture than you will need splinting of that part. If there is hematoma than there is nothing to be worried about. You need to get hot water fomentation and local ointment. Taking antibiotics for five days is also useful as there is chances of hematoma get infected.
Avoid working for long time by that wrist. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
