Suggest Treatment For Persistent Brown Vaginal Spotting

I usually never use tampons anymore but about 5 weeks ago I was at work and got my period so one of my coworkers gave me one. I totally forgot about it and since have been having brownish spotting everyday. I was going to make an appointment w my OB but then I got my period again yesterday. Tonight as I was using the restroom and changing my pad I noticed something hanging from my vagina and when I pulled it out, it was the tampon! I ve had no signs of infection, no fever, rash or chills, no cramping or smell. But I know that s the last time I used one. Should I let my period take its course and hopefully naturally clean out the waste or should I be on the lookout for anything in particular? I m 35 so I chalked the spotting up to hormone changes. I m remaining calm but I am a little worried. What is your best analysis and advice?

Hi,

Well, the cause of yellowish or brown vaginal discharge is a common and usually harmless issue.

Occasional spotting between periods might have this appearance and can be normal, especially if you're taking low-dose birth control pills.

So in most cases this is not sign of disease. If it is, then usually this indicates bacterial vaginosis, STD or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Less common, some other hormonal disorders may be present. In some cases. However, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem.

Although brown and yellow vaginal discharge often does not indicate a serious problem, it should not be ignored if it persists, recurs or is accompanied by other symptoms then you should see a gynecologist for further work up.

In some cases, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
