Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Phlegm In A Child

2 1/2 year old has a persistent wet cough, especially at night. This is about fifth week in. His breath is now starting to smell.....two weeks ago his pcp checked his chest and said it sounded all clear. No fevers, no lethargy...no unusual behavior. I think it,s just a nasty virus.

I hear phlegm in his cough, and have seen green mucas from his nose but see/hear no other symptoms.

What can I do to make him more comfortable at night (humidifiers don't help), and should I take him back in to his pcp? Oooh, tylenol does seem to make him more comfortable....though he has no fever.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...he could be having a allergic respiratory problem. 5 weeks of cough could be multi triggered wheeze as it is coming without fever. He might need a chest X-ray and some medications to tackle wheeze. I suggest you consult a pediatrician regarding this.
