Suggest Treatment For Pseudogout In An Elderly Person
My mother is 90 years old and has had a severe attack of pseudogout and she is in great pain and her wrist and fingers are so swollen and hot and it is a weekend when you cannot get an appointment with a doctor is there anything we can do to relieve her discomfort until Monday and we can get to her primary doctor?
** Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
1. pseudogout is a form of arthritis triggered by deposits of calcium crystals in the joints causing short term or long term swelling in the joints and is most commonly in the elderly but one has to exclude other medical conditions like: hypothyroidism, iron overload, too much calcium [hypercalcemia], or too little magnesium [hypomagnasemia] for better management of the pathology.
2. Prior to contacting with your primary care doctor, one may take an OTC [over the counter] NSAIDs [non steroidal anti inflammatory drug] (ibuprofen) or colchicine to abort or prevent attack.
PS. grind nutmeg powder and mix with coconut oil and massage over the affected parts.
