I get uti s every 6 months. I am 54 years old and had this problem since 25. I had many procedures by a urologist to get rid of it. It helps for a year or so, then it is back. I had a sling operation in 2006. The last 3 years the utis are back. The medical centre test my urine 3 weeks back and said that there was urine my blood. I got a course of cipro antibiotics. They tested this morning and said that there is still blood. They told me that it can be cancer. Could that be true?
Dear- thanks for taking the time to ask us your medical question. I understand your concern about recurrent urinary tract infection with blood. Some patients are more prone to have UTI due to hold the urine and don't empty their bladder when they should. Blood in the urine can be the initial finding of bladder cancer but not necessary is the only reason for this. It is advisable to get the urine sample and sent it to the laboratory for a regular bacterial culture and cytology. It is important to have a cystoscopy by an urologist to complete the evaluation of blood in urine. I hope my advise will be helpful. Dr.Sara
