General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Although you have not mentioned the age of your grand-daughter I take her to be a child.
The commonest causes of severe pain in abdomen in children are:
Appendicitis.
Lymph node enlargement also called abdominal tonsils.
UTI as she was told.
worms.
Gastroenteritis.
With the history you have provided, I would advise the following in such a situation:
Get an ultrasonography and CT scan if needed to know the exact cause.
Proper clinical evaluation and examination by a Pediatric Surgeon or a General Surgeon can give the proper diagnosis.
If the cause is surgical, the patient will need surgical correction.
If no surgical cause is found, then the ultimate treatment is a combination of an antibiotic which should be continued and added-on with symptomatic and supportive treatment.
