Suggest Treatment For Severe Anemia And Low Platelet Count

Hi. Iv had a blood count done. Showed I am slightly anemic and my platelet count is 104. Iv been given iron tablets n told to just go back in 2 weeks for another blood test. I suffer with anxiety so this worry is making it worse. Do I have anything to be worried about? I m home alone with 4 children and I fear I will just pass out or something will happen due to the platelet count?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Is your platelet count is 104? If it is, it is very low. Normal platelet count is from 150,000 to 350,000.

If the number of platelets is too low, excessive bleeding can occur. This condition is called thrombocytopenia (low platelet count).

This may be due to leukemia or an immune system problem or a side effect of some drugs. Better repeat CBC and bleeding time and clotting time- review with reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. C.ELANCHEZHIAN, General & Family Physician
