Suggest Treatment For Severe Ankle Pain

My 13 year old son started track practice two weeks ago. After one week, he began to experience pain on the inside of both ankles and slightly up the inside of the leg when he runs. The pain continued and even after taking 5 days off from running, he tried today and the pain was worse than ever. His shoes were brand new when he started and we tried adding over the counter orthodics today.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As he just started running so ankle pain may be due to strain. For pain you can give tab. Tylenol after consultation. Apply Diclofenac gel or ointment. Use ankle cap. Start running slowly and increase distance after seven days and so on. Use soft shoes. If pain is severe do X-ray after consultation.

Take care.
