Suggest Treatment For Severe Pelvic Pain

My 96 year old father fell on his bottom hard and now has pain in his pelvic area which makes it very hard to walk. He had xrays at the ER and was sent home with pain meds. They said no fractures but I feel he should have had a cat scan or some further tests. What do you think?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear caring son
At 96 age bones are severely osteoporosis and fractures with minor trauma. Since your father has got hard trauma possibility of fracture is more likely. Pelvis xrays are not sensitive tool to diagnose iliac fractures. I would advise ct scan of pelvis with 3D reconstruction of images to rule out fracture. Advise him strict bed rest and apply pelvic binder. Take tab diclofenac 50mg twice a day for pain relief. Visit expert orthopaedic surgeon with report. All the best.
