Suggest Treatment For Severely Sore Gums Between Molars And Cheek

Hi I have a very sore gums between my molars and cheek. It looks very red and ulcer like. This is the second time it has happened in the last few months last time bonjela cleared it up I am currently using it but it's stinging when I apply it. I also have a row of small white lumps along the same cheek that are in line with my bite though I don't remember biting my cheek and they are not sore. I also have a small white patch on my tongue that started off looking like a blister it's now just a white patch. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and take a lot of medications, the last time it happened the doctor told me it was the gabapentin. I am a smoker and also a registered nurse though on long term sick at present, I have started to think the worst (mouth cancer) and get tearful about it regularly I am so scared of going to the doctor again. Can you help please. My name is Beverly

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have cheek bite of soft oral mucosa between molars and cheek area. It causes constant irritation and leads to scaly feel. It is not a mouth cancer symptom. The gum swelling and patch on tongue is most probably due to some medication .

I would suggest you to :-

- Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing teeth twice a day .

- Do antiseptic mouthwash rinses like listrine twice a day .

- Do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day .

Consult your doctor again to discuss the effect of medicine on oral health . Doctor may alter the dose or give some substitute .

Also visit dentist for proper examination and to rule out the cause like dental abscess ,oral thrush or leukoplakia . Doctor may give blue light therapy and may perform root canal if there is any dental infection.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
