Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hiya, I fell off my bike last week, slipped on a railway track and slammed my shin bone on the track, got up and carried on although in much pain. When I got to work my shin had swelled up quite large and bruising was immediate. I had it dressed and put a compression bandage on and carried on. five days later it is still slightly swollen and bruising is right down to my ankle and all around and I bumped it today which was extremely painful. I am biking and walking on it but take panadols to manage and it still hurts, although I am very careful how I walk with it to minimise the pain. what do you think, could it be cracked?
Dear patient You have got injury to your shin through motor vehicle accident which is high velocity trauma. Since you are able to walk on limb with pain possibility of minor fracture cannot be ruled out. I would advise Xray of involved leg anteroposterior and lateral views to rule out fracture. If it's normal apply cold compress hourly on swelling. Take tab diclofenac plus serratiopeptodase combination twice a day for pain and swelling relief. Take tab augmentin 625 mg thrice a day for 3 days to prevent infection. If there is fracture need to consult expert orthopaedic surgeon.
