Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with shingles on May 15, if they do not come in contact with the blistering or rash, am I still contagious to someone who hasn t had Chicken Pox? The blisters are dried up, scabbing and are not spreading. Some of the scabs have come off, but there is no discharge. The blistering is at the inside of the arm where it bends. (opposite side of elbow), and one blister on the foot. I was prescribed Valtrex, a 6 day steroid pack and Gabapentin.
Hello Welcome to health care magic. Shingles is not contagious unlike its previous infection, chickenpox. You need not worry from that aspect.
Shingles is treated by antivirals like Valcyclovir/Acyclovir for 7 days. Local application of calamine lotion will give a soothing effect. Let the blisters heal by itself. Keep the area clean and dry. If the pain or tingling sensation persists beyond 1 month, you may need to show it to your physician.
Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask more if you have any.
