Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Eating Difficulty, Cough And Dark Phlegm

Hi my question is: I have sore throat since sat night I am able to eat without difficulty I have no fever this morning I coughed up a small amount of dark phlegm. Do I need to go see Doctor or is resting enough? My return day to work is Thursday. Pls advise? Thank u

Welcome to health care magic,

Majority of cases throat pain, cough with sputum are due to viral infection (EB virus,adenovirus) but in some cases it might be related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis).

We differentiate the cause through routine blood counts with throat examination, pharyngoscopy to rule out non infective causes.

Therefore it is advisable to see the doctor, Preferably ENT specialist for complete medical history including history of sensitivity to antibiotics and thoroughly clinical examination.

The first choice drug for upper respiratory tract infections is levofloxacin or ofloxacin (quinolones group) or azithromycin (macrolides group) which are much better than any other antibiotics.

You might require antibiotics as i mentioned above (to prevent super infection if cause is viral) with analgesics, antiinflammatories,expectoranats like cheratussin AC syrup and steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day.

Consult the appropriate doctor to get the whole treatment.
