Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat With Ear Pain

I have a sore throat and very dry mouth at night with a light ear ache. When I wake up I take ib profen and in a hour or two I feel normal, except I feel a little fatigued and have a light cough. I don't have a runny nose or anything. Is this just a cold?

Hello there,
thank you for your question on healthcare magic.
From your symptoms you are very likely to be suffering from chronic sinus congestion with post nasal drip and breathing difficulties owing to blocked sinus passages.
At night, sinus congestion tends to get worse and when you lie down to sleep there is post nasal drip. These make breathing through the nose difficult and you tend to breath through your mouth, during sleep without realizing it.Hence you wake up with a dry mouth.
The frequent post nasal drip irritates the back of your throat leading to soreness and a dry cough.
The earache is also due to blocked sinus passages that put pressure on the eustachian tubes and cause pain.In addition to that, sinusitis can even lead to ear infection that can cause pain.
This is more often than not due to frequent attacks of cold and exposure to allergens in the air.
You need to treat your sinus congestion with home remedies like steam with menthol inhalation three times a day.
You may need prescription antibiotics if there is bacterial infection of sinuses or ear or throat and also intranasal budesonide spray.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for dropping by healthcare magic.
Have a good day!
