Dear Patient,
Thanks for contacting HCM
I understand your concern and would like you to know that stomach flu is another name for viral gastroenteritis. Virus cause inflammation of stomach and intestine and in most patients it presents as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever and headache. These are generally self limiting and is not serious except in babies and elderly population in whom dehydration may cause complication. There is no specific medication for stomach flu since antibiotics don't help as stomach flu is caused by virus and not bacteria but you could do following precautions to prevent complication.
Increase fluid intake- One glass of Oral Rehydration solution 1 glass per hour. You should avoid sugary, carbonated, caffeinated, or alcoholic drinks can make diarrhea worse and you should avoid them.
Proper Nutrition- You must take balanced diet that provide required proteins, protein, potassium, salt etc. You can take banana, fruits, fruit juice, yogurt, lean meat, toast, soup etc.
Over the counter drug- for diarrhea you can take Tab Loperamide 2mg and for vomiting you can take Tab domperidone 10 mg.
How you can protect Yourself from recurrent infection:
Properly wash your hands after using washroom and before eating. One should wash as long it takes to recite alphabets.
Even After these precautions you still have diarrhea and fever or you have fever, pus or blood in stool my advice to you would be to see a doctor for proper evaluation, treatment and follow up.
Hope this has helped you
May get well soon
Regards
