Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain And Acid Reflux

I am 41 yrs old, I have been dealing with constant personal problems due to sickness and death in the family for the past 2 years and especially last year.
I had mild pain/feeling on my right side stomach since last September. Had an EGD done in November (2013), under GI doctor's recommendation, in January I took a 14 day course of omeprasol for acid reflux but at that time I did not feel any discomfort due to acid reflux, it did not help with the stomach pain. In June after I went to see him again he asked me to try Dixalan. Tried it for 2 weeks the pain in the stomach is no longer is there.

Starting on early April (round about the same time there was another death - brother in law died due to non alcoholic syrosisi - in my near family) I started feeling there is something at the back of my throat. I often have white clear ,foamy and salty mucus. Sometimes my throat feels dry or itching (irritation in the throat). I have no caugh but feel kind of a burning sensation at the back of my throat sometimes right before I eat lunch, before I have afternoon snack or have dinner since recently. Most often I feel better after a meal.
I have been suffering for the last 4 months.
Please advice????????

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post is attributed to Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The acid reflux is caused due to relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.

Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole (which prevent acid formation in stomach)+ Domperidone preparations (strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux)

In addition you need to follow certain diet & lifestyle measures, such as:
1. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised. Avoid stress.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.

Wishing a good health.
Take care.
