Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Brusing On Ankle And Foot

I sprained my left ankle 8 weeks ago while hiking. I slipped on some loose rock going downhill and instinctively pivoted my left foot to stop myself from sliding...so I rolled it outward. I had to hike 4 more miles of downhill switchbacks before I could get off of it. I followed R-I-C-E and had x-rays two days later to rule out a break...I was told the x-ray showed swollen tissue. I can walk on it now without much problem though going up and down stairs and crouching still hurts up the back of my heel. If I bump the bottom of my heel in the wrong way it really hurts up the heel, the back of my foot and under my ankle. Anyway, this week I went back to cardio workouts at the gym. I did the elliptical at three days (30 minutes) and treadmill one day (30 minutes) and yesterday I danced to a few songs (in flats) at an event. Today my ankle and foot are extremely swollen and there is some new redness/bruising along the outter side of my foot, under my ankle around to my heel. Is it possibly I just overdid it even though its been two months already? Or should I go back to my doctor for another x-ray? Is swelling expected this long after the initial injury?

Dear Madam,

It can be because of overstraining but that can be said only after examination. So in my opinion you should take medical help.
