Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Hard Bruise In Calf And Ankle
Hi I took a 2 footed kick to the calf playing soccer, as the other player slipped and lost his footing. My foot was off the floor otherwise he would have broken my leg. I didn t realise the extent of the contact and ran 4 miles on it the next day in pain. I noticed 2 days later that my calf and even my ankle is really swollen and rock hard. There is a specific area that s really painful, but the majority of the swelling is on the other side ( the inside of the leg ). I m training for a mararthon, do I need to get this looked at?
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. If you are able to walk and able to move the joints actively then there is unlikely possibility of a fracture.
It could be only a soft tissue injury which generally subsides over a period of time spontaneously without any issues.
Follow these guidelines -
* Protection to the area in the form of brace and avoid bearing weight on leg * ice packing to alleviate the pain * elastic compression bandage to reduce the swelling * Keep your foot end in elevation
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
