Suggest Treatment For Swelling Of Wrist In Elders

I am 95 years old and in relatively good health (some high blood pressure, gout on occasion) Normally, I feel wonderful. But, the last 3 weeks, I have experienced swelling in both wrists which prevents me from doing much of anything. My uric acid is 5.2. I am taking an osteoarthritis drug and colcrys. Neither has helped.

Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. It appears to be due to rheumatoid arthritis or associated osteoarthritis. Will require an X-ray for confirmation.
2. If pain is severe, intra-articular injection of corticosteroids is helpful. Local pain sprays can be used to reduce pain.
3. Avoid severe movements. Take rest. Application of heat can be helpful.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
