Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankle And Fluid In Lungs

My father is 78 and has had swollen ankles for while. Now he is having a shortness of breath. He went to his doctor and they say he has fluid in his lungs but doesn't have pneumonia. His doctor has him on medication for the past week but it's not getting better

Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear about your father and his recent medical problems with swelling and fluid on the lungs. From your narrative I come to the conclusion that your father is suffering from congestive heart failure. Your doctor has just started him on medication and he has not yet responded. Your father may need more time but he may also need additional medication. In my practice I would see a new patient with heart failure several times over a period of weeks to get the right combination of medication to help his heart failure. I would recommend that you have your father follow up with his doctor to help regulate his medications

Hope this answers your question. Please contact us again with your concerns.
