Suggest Treatment For Swollen Painful Leg With History Of Cancer

I have had the lymph nodes in my groin removed because of cancer, 4 years ago and am suffering severe swelling and pain in the whole of my leg and sometimes up my thigh. I wear compression stockings but I find them very irritating. I am interested in advice and/or details of a therapist who can help me.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Lymph nodes are the part of lymphatic system which helps in drainage of extracellular fluid and keeps swelling away. Extracellular fluid from lower limbs drains into inguinal lymph nodes. Now since your inguinal lymph nodes are removed drainage of fluid from lower limb is impaired and hence swelling develops. This must be explained to you by your doctor before surgery as this can be permanent. We call it lymphoedema. Limb elevation and compression stocking might help a bit. You can consult cosmetic surgeon as newer treatment are now available like laser available nd cryotherapy.
