My son fell in ice hockey game and hit back of his head. It s been two weeks and it s still sore, even his eyes hurt. He also was dealing with a virus and lots if blowing his nose and coughing. Pew have followed concussion protocol but wish it would go away. He s 9 years of age.
Sounds like he's suffering from postconcussive syndrome or at least a postconcussive headache (PCH). Obviously, in a child of 9 years we wish to be extremely careful in terms of medications but there are some very good agents which he could be placed on that could help with his symptoms so that he can try and resolve this problem quickly before it becomes chronic and then, even more difficult to fix down the road. PCH's usually last weeks to months but they gradually dissipate. Treatment can expedite the process. You may wish to take him to a headache specialist for a review.
If you would like to carry on a consult with myself (I'm a neurologist/headache specialist as well and do work with children) then, you may contact me at bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi.
