Suggest Treatment For The Fluctuating Thyroid Results And Having Antibodies
I have likely graves disease but my symptoms seem to fluctuate between hyper and hypothyroid on a 2 monthly basis. I'm waiting for antibodies results to confirm but I have a large goitre (visible from a distance and eye problems). I've never managed to have bloods when in a hyper phase but now have a form and will do so when I get those symptoms. My question is if my symptoms fluctuate so much but I do have the antibodies what treatment will my endocrinologist likely recommend?
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I havegone carefuly through your conern. You shouldn't wait for the symptoms to check the thyroid hormones. If you have goiter and eye problems suggestive for Graves' disease you should consult an endocrinologist and get the blood test that he recommends. If the antibodies are high, suggestive for Graves', the treatment consists in normalizing the thyroid hormones and lowering the effect of antibodies in the eyes. For this corticosteroids may be prescribed.
