Suggest Treatment For Tick Bite Swelling In A Child
I removed a tick from my 5 year old daughter 5 days ago. It was a watermelon sized tick, a wood tick I believe. We do no live in an area known for deer ticks. When I removed the tick, a portion of my daughter s scalp came with it. The area is now red and swollen. My daughter says it is tender. She also has a swollen lymph node behind her ear on the same side as the tick bite. I have a prescription for her for azithromycin. It was prescribed for her by a doctor when her brother had strep throat. She never developed strep at that time and I kept the medicine in the fridge. Is it safe to give that to her at this point? Will it help with the tick bite swelling?
This needs antibiotic treatment, but Azithromycin is not a good choice. So kindly take her to your doctor. Meanwhile, you can give her an analgesic like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for symptomatic relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
