Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus While On Atorvastatin

I have controlled HBP and too high Cholesterol numbers even with Advorstatin 40 mg. I have had tinitis since 1972. I recently had vision checked with no abnormalities revealed. Today my vision suddenly went wavery in both eyes from left of center. Other area of eyes functions normally. I noticed tinitis has become more demanding - which usually means I m getting sick or have been exposed to loud music - neither has occurred. Your opinion is appreciated.

Hello and welcome,

Acute vision change and worsening tinnitis may indicate hypertensive crisis. The vision change might be from hypertensive retinopathy. You should get your blood pressure measured to rule out hypertensive emergency as soon as possible.
If the blood pressure is under the control your vision loss may be from the stenosis (narrowing) of carotid arteries. Carotid arteries supply blood to the head and brain. Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are the main causes of carotid artery stenosis. The condition may cause amaurosis fugax - a temporary vision loss due to a lack of blood flow to the retina. Carotid artery stenosis may also cause tinnitis (especially pulstile). Your doctor may confirm the diagnosis with a doppler ultrasound of the neck or with a CT angiogram. The treatment option (medical or surgery) depends on the severity of the arterial narrowing.

I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.

Thank you,
Malik Amonov MD
