Im a 25 year old male about 5 foot 7 67kg, I have been getting bad twitcing mainly of the neck and head for a long time now which can cause me to get light headedness and feel shaky on the knees. It first started in 2002 but went away in 2005 i was feeling better but then again started to occur in 2009, thought exercising lifting heavy weights could of been a trigger or someting else, i have tried taking magnesium but doesnt always help and sometimes makes me feel funny and the doctors i have didnt do much i have also had a blood test but everthing appeared mainly normal and sent me to a neurologist but didnt do much but did have a mri scan done on the brain and neck in oct 2009 but nothing appeared to be wrong with the brain. Also sometimes when i eat certain foods like peanuts, chocolate, caffeine coke can make me twitch more and not feel right. I am still twitching today and makes me feel shaky and not right when at work and wondering if can give me advice what i can do as no one in my family has ever had this and i dont lift weights much at all anymore but do go for jogs as i am still quite active and sometimes

Hello,

You are suffering from twitching in the head and neck since many years but it went away and has again returned. It is quite recurrent now and is causing your knees to get shaky, you are getting light headed. Stress or psychological factors, sensitivity to certain food or food allergy (gluten, dairy products, peanuts, soda, etc.) may trigger symptoms. Avoid stress (emotional and physical) and anxiety. Stress causes muscles to react with involuntary movement.

Anxiety can cause muscle twitches and spasms, too. It can cause numbness in the muscles and nerves. Avoid taking food that has additives like sulfites used to preserve dried fruit, canned goods and wine. Muscle twitching can be a symptom of a nervous system disorder. Due to overuse, stress/strain, poor posture, weakening of the muscles of the neck may cause twitching of the neck muscles.

Twitching of the neck muscles can be a side effect of certain medications such as anti-depressive medications, etc. Be careful of the medicines you have been taking. To reduce twitching of the head and neck you are suggested to do head and neck exercises under a Physical therapist. A hot shower can help minimize twitching. You can apply hot water fomentation on the affected muscle by soaking a towel in hot water. It will give relieve. Massage with olive oil on affected area of the neck for 5-10 minutes helps to relax the stressed and strained muscles.

Maintain good posture. Applying hot and cold compress may help. Take vitamin and mineral supplements that contains magnesium since it is a natural relaxant of the muscles of the neck. Take NervUp forte as a supplement. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a neurologist, get Nerve conduction test, CBC, imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
