my almost 3 year old son is potty training...2 days ago he started to not want to go on the potty and starting yesterday he began holding his pee for long hours. 13 hours then 9 hours then 15 hours. The last two times he went, it was in the bathtub. I took him to the doctor and the doctor isn't worried and said to give lots of fluids and he will eventually go but to get a urine sample if I could. He was standing in the tub the last time he peed, and I had taken home a urine sample cup, so I was able to get a sample. I took it to the doctor's office and they said there is no infection. I am just afraid of long term damage if he keeps this up. I am not quite sure what to do...
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist,i can understand your anxiety. Your son has been having this problem for last two days only. The urine routine test is not suggestive of an urinary infection. Then the doctor is right in advising increased fluids intake. If this doesn't clear in a weeks time, you're advised to get some tests done : 1. blood routine, creatinine, and urea. 2. ultrasound -KUB. These reports will give an idea about his symptoms and kidney involvement. If you've any doubts, you may send the reports to me,as a direct question. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
