Recently, I had a vaginal ultrasound because last month I had a period lasting on and off for almost 3 weeks. This included a 2 hour period of time of eliminating some big clots that I never had before. Some days of the period were very heavy, some were nothing at all. I am 46 in two months. Most of my menstrual history has been a little inconsistent with every period starting heavy and with pain and a migraine. My doctor read the ultrasound, a nurse relayed the information saying I had fibroids, one being the size of an orange. This is located posteriorly . Doctor recommends an abdominal hysterectomy or very least abdominal surgery to remove the largest fibroid. If I dont have many symptoms until last month, do I really need a hysterecotomy? More info, so far all pap smear tests have been good.
Fibroid of orange size need not be removed if it doesn't cause any problem. But since you are having a problem it's better to go for abdominal hysterectomy. If only the fibroid removed it may grow again and if not removed it may continue to grow and difficult to remove it.
