Suggest Treatment For Vomiting At Night In Children

My grandson is 8. Over the past week he has throw up 1 time 3 different nights, usually after he has been asleep for about 3 hours. After that he sleeps fine the rest of the night, and feels fine in the morning. He said he feels fine all day and just wakes up and throws up. I am concerned.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A possibility for nighttime vomiting in children is termed "winter vomiting" disease. Several different kinds of viruses can cause this illness. Winter is not the only season in which it occurs. The only symptom is vomiting, nearly always during the night. Diarrhea is most unusual. There is no fever. The vomiting may recur. It is of short duration. There may be other children in his class with the same illness. Making sure he doesn't become dehydrated is most important.

I hope this helps and your son will soon be well. Please return if there are any more questions.
