Suggest Treatment For Vomiting Despite Taking Zofran

My 3 yr old granddaughter began vomiting severely Monday night. She was taken to the doctor and this was at first thought to be a virus. Zofan ( every 8 hrs)was prescribed but would wear off at approx. The 5 to 6 hr mark. She was a febrile and her WBC is within normal limits but was dehydrated and was admitted for IV fluids. Here is my ques... My daughter reported a yeast smell to her emesis and the fact that the child was hungry in between bouts but would vomit all that was eaten as soon as the zofran wore off. What are possible causes a yeast odor in her emisis?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As the WBC is within normal limits, there cannot be yeast infection. As fungal infection is seen at low WBC. Your child has viral infection. Just ignore smell. Take proper control of fever. If fever is well controlled the vomiting will be controlled itself.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can help you further.
