Suggest Treatment For Watery Diarrhea Which Is Yellowish

I have been experiencing watery diarrhea, that is sometimes yellowish in color, and has a fishy odor when I wipe. I have also had a persistent headache for over two months along with the diarrhea. Dont know what to do next. PCP wants to do MRI to rule out brain or sinus issues.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Many intestinal infections are associated with malaise and headache. I would suggest to evaluate for diarrhea rather than going for an MRI first.

In our clinic we recommend thorough history including food habits, physical examination, laboratory parameters, ultrasound, and colonoscopy in selected cases according to the need.

General guidelines till then to get better faster are:
• Consume plenty of liquids preferably boiled water, coconut water, rice water, lemon juice, green tea, coffee, homemade juices, buttermilk, etc., to maintain hydration.
• Consume soft diet in small amounts at intervals.
• Increase items with probiotics in your food as fresh curd.
• Avoid overeating.
• Avoid all oily, non-vegetarian, beverages, junk, and spicy foods.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol if using.
• Remain ambulatory, regular walking and exercises help.
• Avoid stress and anxiety.
• Have regular sound sleep of 7 to 8 hours.
• Keep BP, blood sugar, weight, and cholesterol levels under control.
• Check whether any problem in vision (for persistent headache).
• Avoid exposure to excess heat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
