Suggest Treatment To Prevent Choking Hazard With Or Without Food

Hello, I am a 74 year old female who is experiencing choking spells with and w/o food. My husband saved my life today by dislodging a tiny piece of steak from my throat. I couldn t breath for over 2 mins. Then blood appeared. Throat very sore. Afraid to eat or take meds. About 7 years ago I had sleep apnea surgery (PPP) to remove my tonsils, uvela, and excess tissues. That is when the choking began. What can you recommend I do to control/eliminate further intances of choking? Thank you.

Hello and thank you for your question. This sometimes happens after a surgery like the one you had. There is not real cure. It could help you to see a speech therapist. They are very skilled at teaching people to retrain the muscles in the back of the throat. In the mean time Eating very carefully and chewing food completely can also help to prevent choking.
Thanks for using HCM.
