Suggest Ways To Manage Swollen Toes After An Injury
my 10 year old son had a heavy kitchen chair fall directly on his big toe last night. the nailbed pretty quickly became black & blue. this morning the black & blue had filled the entire nailbed & the toe was swollen. this afternoon the toe is red & warm to the touch mostly around the nailbed area/top 1/2 of the toe. worried about an infection or pressure build up...? is there anything we should do or just watch it? it s very painful to walk & just at rest hurts/throbs he says
* As there is blue nail bed and red, swollen toe, underlying hematoma formation with cellulitis changes are evident on clinical grounds.
* Though ice application and foot elevation will help over a period of time with the analgesic tablet as ibuprofen with paracetamol, I would suggest a Doc visit for additional prescription of antibiotics to resolve it faster and prevent secondary bacterial infection.
* If the doc thinks, he or she may advise you for the need of x-ray after clinical examination of a range of movements, as there may be associated underlying hairline crack or another injury along with the nail bed injury.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
