Cravings for alcohol are hard to treat.
Lorazepam has an overlap of effect with alcohol and is generally a very bad idea to give to anyone with addiction (especially alcohol) problems.
0.25 mg absolutely lowest dose I've ever seen given..... once a day .. and without liver disease it's a 6-8 hr drug (with liver disease it could easily last more than one day)... seems to be a low dose.
There are several things one can do about
alcoholism to transcend the cravings. 1) realize that having them is part of the addiction process and
2) feeling positively that given death / family issues / job issues... that feeling the cravings is feeling like winning the battle
3) discuss it. Meetings, sponsors, a very caring wonderful spouse !
4) drugs that MIGHT do something on it are
CAMPRAL and
NALOXONE but they more likely block the positive effects from using.
5)
antabuse which does Absolutely NOTHING on cravings, but reinforces that you cannot give into the cravings.
hope this helps, and thank you.
