Suggested 80 Fl Oz After Delivery. Developed Thirst, Fever And Started Shaking. Is This Serious?
My friend just had a baby, only a week or two ago, she has been told to drink 80 fl oz. because she s breast feeding. However, she develops a thirst, accompanied by a fever from 103-105 and begins to shake. Once she drinks some water, it all goes away. Is this something serious or just dehydration from the breast feeding?
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ivo Ditah's Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about what your friend is experiencing. It is so atypical for dehydration to cause fevers in the 103-105F and shaking. Rarely would this happen if ever. But it being relieved by drinking makes the whole scenario even more confusing. Because of the excessive thirst, I will suggest that she should be tested and cleared of diabetes. Also, is she urinating much? We would only settle with dehydration as a possible explanation if all other investigations show no other possible cause.
I hope you find this helpful. Thank you for using our services and please feel free to ask for more information if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ivo, MD.
