Surgery For Tibia And Fibula Fracture. No Follow Ups. Is The Treatment Correct?
One week ago today, I had surgery for a tibia and fibula fracture. The orthopedic surgeon (and physician's assistant) gave me instructions to call the office to make the follow-up appointment. Since I was released Monday evening, I called on Tuesday morning. I had to leave a message with instructions I would be called back in 24-48 hours. I called back Thursday afternoon, with no luck again. With the explanation of, "orders have not been turned in yet." When I called on Friday (yesterday), I was transferred to another person to leave yet another message! I feel frustrated and wondering if I should get a referral to a different orthopedic surgeon? If I am not able to get a straight answer from the office for 4 days, how can I be sure I am getting good treatment from this doctor?
In some clinics the person is seen within a week for a repeat xray and evaluation to ensure that the bones are still in the correct position. The policy may vary from surgeon to surgeon so it is possible that your doctor has a different procedure or follow up process.
You can consider trying to contact the office again. If you are unable to reach the doctor and you are not given a definitive date for review then you may want to consider assessment by another orthopedic surgeon .That person, however would not have your original files or xrays .
I hope this helps
