A friend of mine swallowed an 8 inches straw last night. It already went throught the esophagus and it maybe right now into the stomach . She is not feeling any pain right now but is very worry. She is 5 1 and weights 108 pounds so I guess having a small body composition may not be helpfull to the movement of the straw across the intestine track. She needs to know what precautions to take for example what to eat and what not to eat. I guess there maybe certain food that may help to building the right excrement composition to sorround the straw allowing it to travel more safe without causing any damage to the intestine track. I wish to know some recommendations from a Doctor.
Under normal circumstances,it should not pose any problem for her in excreting out the straw without any damage to intestinal tract. There is no reason to worry at all.Of course, certain foods like fresh fruits and vegetables which are high in fibre content may help in increasing the stool bulk and hence in early and safe excretion.Avoid foods that may harden the stools especially the refined foods.Drink plenty of water, upto atleast 10 glasses per day, because if body contains sufficient water, the absorption of water from the intestine will be low, and hence the fluid content of the stools will be higher, and hence help easy passage of stool.
if the straw is in stomach it is expected to come out slowly and slowly rich fiber diet like salads green vegetables bananas will be able to help more in this case along with antacids to smothen the walls of gi tract can also use liqui parafiin throuh mouth till it comes out
