Swelling And Excessive Pain In Ankle. How Do I Know If It Is A Sprain Or Something Worse?

Hi I am a fitness instructor and I popped my ankle during class tonight. As soon as I did I tasted blood in my mouth and now my ankle is extremely painful and swollen. There is no visible discolouration/bruising. Is it just a sprain or something more sinister?

Hi dear,
Yes indeed it is a sprain. Sprain is a ligament injry and at times it takes up to 9 months to heal completly. As your profession requires quite a lot movement involved with ankle hence advise you to see a doctor urgently asap.

Mean while you can apply some ice locally 3-4 times daily, complete rest to that ankle and put a crepe bandage across that ankle, while resting put your foot on pilow to render elevation to affected joint.
