Swelling In Middle Knuckle In Right Index Finger. Is It Arthritis?

I am 55. While do light yard work in the cold, the middle knuckle in my right index finger had sudden onset pain. I notices it started swelling. While just standing there, I could feel the knuckle closest to the fingernail start to hurt as well. This happened a couple of weeks ago while watching a soccer game in very cold weather. Is it arthritis?
