Swollen Blister In My Mouth And It Excruciating Pain
I have swollen lips and what look like popped blisters completely covering the lips, two small white bumps on my tongue, sore jaw bones, and a constant dry feeling on my lips. I went to the doctor two days ago and he was in quite a hurry and didn t give me a straight answer. He gave me a swab and sent it to the lab but the results won t be back for a few days and he also prescribed me Amoxicillin which doesn t seem to be helping at all. I can t eat anything, drink anything or even brush my teeth because the pain is so bad. I need help figuring out what this is and what I can do to make the dryness, the blisters, and the swelling go away. I can t imagine how worse this could possibly get and I really don t want to find out. Please help me!!

How old are you? Did you have fever recently? Your Symptoms suggest Herpes Labialis which is infection of the lips, mouth or gums with the herpes simplex virus. It causes the development of small, painful blisters which are commonly called as cold sores or fever blisters. Antibiotics would not help, you may need topical and oral antivirals.Usually they go away on their own in 1 to 2weeks.
Kindly see another Physician at the earliest.

Hello taylor,
I think you are having severe apthous ulcers. Your signs and symptoms certainly are not like Herpes labialis or Zoster.
I would suggest you to start oral steroids (after prescriptiob ofcourse), Vit B- complex, and apply an anaesthetic gel on the lesions (which you will get with a prescription only). It will take around 7-10 days for the condition to subside.

Its unfortunate that your doctor has not paid adequate attention to you. You will have to see a doctor anyways, since it could vary from infections to inflammatory conditions. I also suspect that OTC drugs are not available. Its not fair to suggest medications without actually examining you. That would be more like your other doctor, who wrote off antibiotics for you. Try getting chlorhexidine mouth washes, anaesthetic oral suspensions to alleviate the pain. You could send in photos to drtanumay@gmail.com.
I shall hazard a diagnosis, but am sorry, wont be able to help you further. Take care.

1) Are the blisters water filled(vesicles).
2) Is it on one side of the face.
3) Are the blisters over lips only and are bilateral .
4) Is it associated with fever or stress /body ache.
Your primary history goes towards HEPES LABIALIS OR HERPES ZOSTER(depends on location of blisters).Along with antibiotics you also need a course of anti viral medicines like acyclovir or valacyclovir .Your exact diagnosis would also decide the dose of anti viral medicine required.
In such cases you should start the medicine as soon as possible .So consult a dermatologist who would be the best person to diagnose your condition and start your treatment .
If you can answer my above questions then I'll be happy to guide you further.
