Swollen Feet, Painful To Touch. Do I Have Cellulitis?

I have just got back from a 16 day tour in South Africa. Whilst out there my feet became very swollen I assume due to the heat which at times was thirty degrees . They did reduce in size at times . On the way home on the plane they became swollen again , but have now pretty much gone back to normal. My problem now is that they are still quite painful to touch and I want to scratch them. They are not red but I wonder if I have cellulitis

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic
either by standing or sitting continuously for hours may develop edema feet particularly if you are elderly age group which will ultimately pass off if you take rest by lying down on a bed with your legs elevated. any you have to rule out filariasis.for this you have to conult your doctor and get the blood tested for microfilaria
Hope this answer will serve your purpose

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

From the description , I feel the swelling of your legs is due to PHYSIOLOGICAL DEPENDENT OEDEMA which usually occurs after prolonged sitting, standing or lengthy travel. This will subside with simple elevation of the limb.

On the other hand, Cellulitis usually develops as a result of an infective process in the limb. So the limb will feel warm, red, tense and tender with associated high temparature. As you don't have all these symptoms, cellulitis can be ruled out.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
