Swollen Hands, Neck Pain. History Of Heart Issues, Stroke

My father in law is 80 years old and has a history of heart issues as well as had minor strokes. We were away for 4 days and on our return noticed a change in his demeanor. His hand is swollen and he is favoring it, and he is complaining of pain the back of his neck. Understanding that he has multiple issues, is the pain he is experiencing in the back of his neck/head something that we need to take him to the emergency room tonight? He claims it is from the physical activity of lifting chairs a few days ago, and the pain is getting worse.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the neck that he is having is likely to be due to a muscle spasm or spondylottic changes in the cervical spine. You need not rush to emergency room. Doing a hot fomentation will help him.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
