Swollen Left Pointer Finger, Base Knuckle And Reduced Movement A Day After Snowmobiling.

sure , a month ago, i woke up with a swollen left pointer finger, base knuckle an d reduced movement, after a day of snowmobiling(pretty extreme).. i didnt have any impact that stood out, or that my hand hurt, but obviously did. . it is still swollen, reduced movement, and pain on flexing, point tender. ...i am a carpenter and have been working around it, as surprisingly you can do most things without it... but i did not splint it ,or go for xrays, and hoped it was a bad bruise. i am concerned now, as my knuckles are prone to arthritis

hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Health Care Magic, I understand your concern.
Your history and symptoms suggest that you might have had a broken bone in the finger.
If it is still swollen and you have difficulty in flexing the finger , getting an X-ray done is ideal. Consult an orthopedician after the X-ray .
If the pain is unbearable you could take ibuprofen 400mg twice daily after food and wearing a splint will reduce its mobility and thus relieve you of pain.
Since you say you have arthritis, the pain would be aggravated due to the weakened joints.
Also consider taking treatment for your arthritis when you see an orthopedician.
Do not neglect the finger further, i suggest you to seek immediate help . The more you leave it untreated it may go in for a mal-union of bones if they have been fractured and it will lead to permanent deformity of your finger.
Hope this answers your query satisfactorily,
Do write back to us if you need further assistance.
Wish you a speedy recovery and good health.
