Taken Sulfameth For UTI. Lower Back Pain, Burning Urination. Should I Wait?

I was diagnosed with a UTI last week and given a script for 3 days of Sulfameth. On the last day I had one pill and still had some burning and urgency feelings. I spent the weekend drinking fluids and taking probiotic and Cranberry pills. I don't have insurance or $ to go back in and they refuse to issue another prescription without first being scene. It has been 4 days since last pill was taking, nothing is getting worse, but I have lower back pain and still burn at the end of urination. Although my cycle is close I am not sure if this is cause for worry on my kidney's or still a possible infection. Could you advice me on whether waiting is an ok idea. Will I notice if infection gets worse or could it be a silent grower???
Thank You,
Liz

Hi thanks for your question.
You took sulfameth for urinary tract infection (UTI) for 3 days without any relief and still having burning sensation and low back pain. The bacteria which have caused UTI in you most probably are resistant to sulfameth, that could be the reason your symptoms are still persistent. There is no fun in waiting as you are having infection and it get further serious. I would suggest you to re consult your treating physician who may change the antibiotic and may send you urine for culture sensitivity.
Hope this answers your question.
