Taking Amlodipine, Triamterene And Diovan For BP. Coughing, Difficulty Sleeping. What To Do?
I am on Amlodipine Bysalate, Triamterene HCTZ, and Diovan for blood pressure. Before the Diovan my dr. Had me on Lisinopril. For 5 months I suffered with a violent cough, couldn't sleep, couldn't be in an rnclosed area. Horrible! Finally figured it was the Lisinopril. Quit taking it and felt great, but bp went up a little, so she tried me on Diovan. After 3 weeks, me cough is back. Not as bad but still effects my daily life. What can I take that won't cause a cough? I eas on propranolol for years. Should I try adding a beta blocker?
The medication, diovan (valsartan) also has as rare side effect cough as well as lisinopril. Since your blood pressure requires more than combination of two antihypertensives, it will be best that your doctor consider another drug class such as betablockers e.g mesoprolol, propanolol etc while hoping that you do not develop further side effect. The other drugs, bysalate, triamterene HCTz dosages could be increased perhaps to maximum daily limit in an attempt to see if BP is controlled. You will need to stop the diovan if it is posing adverse effect issues. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible.
Hope this helps
