Taking Effexor XR, Xanax. Is It Okay To Drink Red Wine?

I have been taking Effexor XR, 150 mg twice a day . I have taken 150 mg once per day for about 3 months and another dose of 150 mg in the afternoon was added 5 days ago. This was too much for me and the doctor told me today to stop the 150 mg in the afternoon and add 0.5 mg of Xanax 3xday. I have taken one dose of the 0.5 mg Xanax this afternoon. Is it alright to have a 5 oz glass of red wine for dinner? Thank you.

Using venlafaxine together with ethanol can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid use of alcohol while being treated with venlafaxine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of venlafaxine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you.Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.Hope this helps.Take care.
