Taking Inderal For High Blood Pressure. Red Face, Abnormal Blood Pressure, Swelling. Should I Continue With Medication?

I suffer from High Blood Pressure and take Inderal which seems to keep it under control. However after a very difficult and emotional day at the office I arrived hom feeling very stressed. My face felt and looked very red and my blood pressure was 155 over 100, much higher than normal. When I woke up the next morning my face was still red and also very puffy and uncomfortable. Blood Pressure had risen to 120 over 160. My Dr has put me onto pur-bloka to try and stabilize it. I work in a very stressful environment at the moment, do I continue with this medication?

Dear Friend.

You are hypertensive, you need to take regular medications and keep your self calm.

See, your target B.P should be 120/80 mmHg. Inderal is also a beta-blocker, and you said you have been out by your doctor this time on beta blocker, i guess you are talking about cardio-selective beta blocker like metoprolol.

If you are on metoprolol, its good, because it just not only control your blood pressure, but it also prevents, cardiac remodelling, which is good for your heart.

Keep a check on BP, if still, its not managable on beta blockers, another hypertension drug can be added.

And don't your self increase the dose of beta blockers yourself beacuse, they have to be adjusted according to your heart rate too.

You should follow, salt restricted, low fat diet.

You should try yoga and meditation.

Moreover, i am considering that you are suffering from Primary/systemic Hypertension, other causes which are secondary have been ruled out.

You have not mentioned your age, in case you are a young male, and you have not been worked out for your cause of hypertension, i advise to to get work-up done.
