Taking Lisinopril. How Long It Take For This Medication To Normalize The Bp?

Hello, I am taking Lisinopril 20 mg and discovered that my bp was up last week when I went to an ear/nose/throat doctor. The reading was 157/116 and dropped by Friday to 144/107. I am now taking 40 mg (2 20 mg per day). I didn't take the bp over the weekend to allow the med to get fully into the bloodstream. I wondered how long it takes this type of medication to normalize the bp. Thank you.

Dear Sir
Thanks for your query to HCmagic.
Normally time taken for an ACE inhibitor (the group to which lisinopril belongs) to attain its full anti-hypertensive effect is 10-21 days, 14 days being the average. Moreover not single readings but an average of readings should be compared to see the actual effect.
You must check the BP, when you are relaxed, have not smoked or taken tea coffee in last 1 hour and preferably near the same time of the day.
Once we ensure all these conditions and still BP is not controlled by 2-3 weeks, we will consider adding another drug.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely
